The Problem Solvers League (PSL) is Kenya’s premier national mathematics assessment initiative designed to identify, celebrate, and nurture mathematical problem-solving skills among learners in Grades 6-9.

Our comprehensive program provides schools with valuable insights into learner performance while creating healthy competition at school, county, and national levels.

Developed and moderated by 50 distinguished mathematics educators from across Kenya, with oversight from an Advisory Council of education experts and leadership from the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA), the PSL represents the gold standard in mathematical assessment.

Who can participate in the Problem Solvers League?

Learners in Grades 7, 8, and 9 from all public and private junior schools in Kenya are eligible to participate.

How do I register my school or learners?

Dial *483*117# to get a workspace code and complete the registration through the Kurasa platform.

Who are the 'Mwalimu wa Math' panel?

These are shortlisted and qualified math teachers from across Kenya who submitted the math assessment samples to standardise the format implemented per grade

How much does it cost to participate?

The cost is KES 110 per learner

Who should attend the PSL info sessions?

The scheduled info-sessions are for teachers or headteachers and will offer guidelines in participation as well as navigation of your workspace.

Will participants receive any recognition?

Yes! Certificates will be awarded to all participating learners and teachers.

League Timeline

USSD Registration

Till May Virtual

The Problem Solvers League is a Mathematics assessment competition is facilitated through marks upload to a standard Kurasa Workspace. All participating schools will receive a unique identifier known as a Workspace Code by dialing *483*117#

Training & Onboarding

All June Virtual

Schools registered receive 1:1 and group support to populate their new dashboard in preparation for the contest. Student data will allow quicker upload of final mark list at contest venue.

Arrival & Registration

07:30 - 09:00 AM Main Hall

All schools arriving at the venue must submit their workspace code and payment reference to the registration desk.

Welcome Breakfast & Remarks

09:30 - 12:30 PM Respective Grade Halls

Students are guided to the general hall to listen to remarks from supporting sponsors and school heads present are acknowledged. Previous contest winners will also be present.

Lunch Break

12:30 - 03:00 PM Main Hall Area

A break for refreshments at the general hall as heads of institutions meet and network in a separate hall. Mwalimu wa Math Panel compile the results for announcement shortly after.

Winners & Award Ceremony

02:00 - 03:00 PM Main Hall

Partners invited to hand out awards to winners after criteria is explained in detail and each school receives a competency report for students present.
